Navra practical guide / Reviewed 15 October 2026

Your Google Maps pins.
Now in Navra.

Years of starred campsites, fuel stops and dune entrances do not have to stay in a list you cannot navigate off-road with. Export them once, convert them here, and they become waypoints in Navra, on the web and on your phone.

The converter

Takeout files in, one GPX out

Drop your Takeout files here

Saved Places.json and any list CSV files, together or one at a time. The files are read on this page and never uploaded.

Nothing leaves your browser. How Navra handles your data.

Step by step

From Google Maps to the dunes

01

Star the places that matter

In Google Maps, starred and labelled places export with their coordinates. Places that live only in a named list usually export with a place id and no position. Before you export, open the ones you care about and star them, or drop a pin on the spot.

02

Export with Google Takeout

Go to takeout.google.com, choose Deselect all, then tick Maps (your places) and Saved. Create the export and download the zip. Inside you will find Maps (your places)/Saved Places.json and one CSV per list in the Saved folder.

03

Convert on this page

Drop the JSON and the CSV files into the converter above. Download one GPX of waypoints. Anything without a position is listed with its Google link so you can fix it and run it again.

04

Import on the web

Open app.navra.ae, go to the Library and import the GPX. Tick the waypoints you want and they are saved to your account, with a category guessed from the name, and appear on your phone.

05

Or import on the phone

In Navra open GPS, then Saved, then Import route file and choose the GPX. The file joins your route library. For pins you want to navigate to one at a time, the web import is the better route, because it saves each pin as its own waypoint.

06

Tidy, then download the map

Rename, group into folders and set categories such as fuel, camp, viewpoint or recovery point in the web library. Then download the offline map for the area with Navra Pro before you leave coverage.

What to expect

What moves, and what stays

01

What carries over

The name, the position, your note and comment, and the Google Maps link, so you can always open the original. Starred places and dropped pins arrive complete.

02

What does not

Photos, reviews, opening hours and anything Google holds about the business. A place saved to a list from search results carries only a place id, and only Google can turn that into a position.

03

KML and KMZ need no conversion

If your pins live in Google Earth or My Maps, export them as KML or KMZ and import straight into Navra. The phone accepts GPX, KML, KMZ and TCX; the web library accepts GPX, KML, KMZ and GeoJSON.

04

Your file stays yours

The converter runs in your browser. The files are never sent to us, and the only thing counted is that a conversion happened, not what was in it.

Straight answers

Frequently asked questions

Does the converter upload my Google data?

No. The page reads the files in your browser and builds the GPX there. Nothing is sent to Navra or anyone else. You can turn off your internet after the page has loaded and it still works.

Why do some places come out without coordinates?

The CSV files for Google Maps lists carry a link with a place id, not a position, and only Google can resolve that id. Starred places, labelled places and pins dropped on the map carry coordinates. Star the places you need, or drop a pin, then export again.

Can I import KML or KMZ from Google Earth or My Maps?

Yes, with no conversion. Import the file in Navra on the phone through GPS, Saved and Import route file, or drop it into the web library.

Will the pins show on my phone?

Pins imported through the web library are saved to your account as waypoints and appear in the Navra app on your phone, on the map and in the waypoint widgets. A file imported on the phone joins your route library instead.

Does it work for places outside the UAE?

Yes. Any place with coordinates converts, wherever it is. Offline maps and the rest of Navra work anywhere you drive.

I have hundreds of saved places. Is that a problem?

No for the converter. The web library imports up to two thousand waypoints from one file, so split a very large list into a few files.

Bring the pins. Then plan the drive.

Download Navra for iPhone or Android, import your waypoints, and build the next trip around the places you already know.
